Acne Treatment

Aerolase Neo
Aerolase is really a painless procedure. Feels like a warm massage. People tolerate it extremely well even if they've never had any type of laser treatment before.
Aerolase Neo is a non-ablative laser with a longer wavelength. We can use it on all skin types, including dark skin types. We can use it year-round. We use it for reds, browns, and overall rejuvenation of the skin. It helps with fine lines and wrinkles. It helps with texture, pore size and some mild improvement in tone.
We use Aerolase for laser hair removal as well, which is relatively painless. And we also use it for acne. We have found that it works quite well for acne. Patients do a series of treatments combined with topical medicines, period. We've had nice results with that. It's a very safe laser to use. It's quick, it's painless. People can go about their regular activities. It's also an excellent pre rejuvenation laser for people in their 20s or early 30s that want to start improving their skin.
For acne patients we do a series of five treatments approximately two or three weeks apart, plus maintenance depending on how they respond to treatment. Laser hair removal usually requires a series of 6 treatments, six to eight weeks apart.
For photorejuvenation if they patient has never had any type of rejuvenation treatment before, we tend to start with four treatments spaced two or three weeks apart. Then after that, maintenance treatments of one to two times per year.
We can also combine this treatment with other lasers, particularly I tend to use this in combination
with BBL hero for rosacea patients. Rosacea patients tend to have significant redness flushing vessels
along the face. The BBL HERO followed by the Aerolase gets better results for redness on these patients and we have had many clients that get this done on a regular basis to help with the rosacea.
Generally most people start seeing results after one or two treatments. Like any other type of laser, you'll start seeing improvement right away and those results will continue to improve for about six months. At that point we do recommend maintenance treatments of one to two times per year to maintain results.
The reason for maintenance is that we continue to live as we live. We are exposed to environmental agents, sun damage and dietary factors. All things that breakdown collagen elastic tissue. Therefore we need maintenance. It is a similar principle as someone going to their dentist and getting their teeth cleaned on a semi-annual basis.
With the Aerolase oftentimes we'll combine this with products that are appropriate for your skin. We'd like you to come in with no makeup or moisturizer. We will prep the skin and then we'll provide you with eye protection. This takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on body locations.
During the treatment you will feel mild warmth like a warm massage. This is not a painful treatment. When we are done you will look a little bit flushed and that will last for a few hours.
Some of the brown tones of your skin may look a little bit darker for a week or so. You can go back to all your normal routines on the next day.
We like to make sure that there is approximately 1 millimeter of hair along the skin surface to optimize the laser beam treatment. When we do the treatment, it's usually very comfortable. We have a very short pulse width on this laser. The treatments typically takes a half an hour to 45 minutes. You may feel just a slight discomfort or a slight warmth on some of the follicles afterwards. You may notice some redness that will fade shortly after treatment.
After an early treatment, you may have some mild redness that lasts for a few hours. If you're
having laser hair removal, you may have some redness or red bumps around the hair follicles for a day
or so. Most people tolerate it well. We want you to use good sun protection, but usually you can start your normal activities and wear makeup the same day.
Depends on the patient. We tend to guide you down what we think you should be using depending on
what concerns you have. Post operatively we will also guide you on what we think would optimize your
treatment. Sunscreen before and after is an absolute must.
