Restore lost volume with dermal fillers
Our experienced injectors will provide you with a plan to restore
lost volume in the face which leads to sagging, loose skin.
Rebuild what time has taken away with dermal fillers.
Injectable dermal fillers can plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles, and improve the appearance of scars.
Dermal Fillers
As we age, we start to lose volume in our face due to a loss of collagen in the skin as well as bone loss, muscle atrophy, and fat pad migration. The loss of volume can cause a tired, sunken appearance as well as skin laxity due to a lack of support for the skin. To correct this volume loss, dermal fillers are injected under the skin to restore volume and skin support. By providing support and volume in the skin, dermal fillers can correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and skin folds and restore youthful volume. At Refine Dermatique, we use the Restylane family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers which provide a more natural look.

Is there any downtime after a dermal filler injection?
There is the chance that there will be bruising and/or swelling and tenderness in the areas injected, but these usually resolve in a few days to a week. If any of these symptoms persist longer than a week, or if you develop other symptoms, please contact our office.
Are there things I can do to prepare for a dermal filler injection?
- Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Aleve, Celebrex. Fish oil Ginko Biloba, St. John's Wort and high doses of Vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) being treated.
- Take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) 1 hour prior to your appointment to help with any discomfort
- If you are taking prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should check with the prescribing doctor to see if you are able to stop these medicines for 7-10 days before your appointment and at least 2 days after the procedure has been done.
- If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform the doctor that you have made your appointment with, one week prior to your appointment; this will allow us adequate time to prescribe a medication to prevent an outbreak.
- Eat a small meal or snack prior to your appointment
- Avoid dental procedures (including cleaning) 2 weeks pre filler and 2 weeks post filler
- Bruising and swelling will be worse for the first 24-48 hours after you receive your dermal filler injections. Refrain from exercising for the remainder of the day following your injection(s). You may want to refrain from going to any special events during this time.
- Always inform your provider of all medications, including supplements you may be taking as well as your medical history
What should I do after a dermal filler injection?
- Cold compresses may be used after the treatment to reduce swelling and decrease soreness. You may take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) every 4-6 hours after the treatment to help with any discomfort you may have.
- Make-up may be applied a few hours after the treatment
- For the first 24 hours following treatment, limit exposure to UV. Extensive sun or heat exposure may cause a temporary increase in redness, bruising or swelling at the injection sites. If there is persistent swelling or redness after the injections, you should limit exposure to sunlight until these symptoms subside (for at least 5-7 days). If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a sun block with an SPF of 30 or greater, combined with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours to prevent moving the filler or increasing blood flow to the face
- Avoid taking aspirin (unless medically necessary) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and high doses of vitamin E for 5 days after the treatment, as these may cause an increased risk of bleeding or bruising at the injection sites.
- Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas for about 6 hours after the injections. The treated areas can be washed with a gentle cleanser
- Avoid dental procedure (including cleaning) 2 weeks post filler
- Studies have shown that having a follow-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect. Consult your provider about recommendations for touch-up or follow-up treatments.
Where would I use Botox versus a dermal filler?
Botox is used to smooth and soften lines due to muscular contractions such as 11’s between the eyes, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Dermal filler is used to restore volume to the face and help with wrinkles caused by laxity in the skin.
Is there a reward program for dermal fillers?
Refine Dermatique participates in Galderma's Aspire reward program. Aspire rewards clients with points for each service utilizing their products which include any Restylane family dermal fillers and Sculptra. Points can be redeemed on future Galderma product treatments for savings. It is free to join, and our office will assist you with the process.
How much dermal filler will I need and how much will it cost?
Dermal filler is sold by the syringe, and the amount required varies greatly from person to person. We offer a complimentary consultation with one of our injectors and they will be able to tell you how much you will need and the exact cost.
Can anyone provide Botox and Filler treatments?
While this service is loosely regulated in MN as to qualifications needed to inject, and it is quite a common treatment, there are complications that can occur, especially with someone who does not have the proper background.
