How long does it take to see results from Sculptra?
It usually takes the body 4-6 weeks to start generating collagen after a Sculptra injection, and more than one treatment is usually required for optimal results.
How often do I need to have maintenance?
Once correction is achieved, we recommend a maintenance treatment once per year.
Is there a reward program?
Refine Dermatique participates in Galderma's Aspire reward program. Aspire rewards clients with points for each service utilizing their products which include any Restylane family dermal fillers and Sculptra. Points can be redeemed on future Galderma product treatments for savings. It is free to join and our office will assist you with the process.
Can I exercise after a Sculptra injection?
You can go about your normal daily activities after a Sculptra injection and avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours (about 2 days), defined as any activity that raises your heart rate to 130 beats per minute.
What is the recovery time after a Sculptra Injection?
There is minimal recovery time after a Sculptra injection, and you may return to normal daily activity immediately. THe treated area(s) may be swollen, tender to the touch, and you may have light bruising at the injection site(s) for a couple of days.
Is there anything I should do to prepare for a Sculptra injection?
- QA Box Answer #6 Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Aleve, Celebrex. Fish oil Ginko Biloba, St. John's Wort and high doses of Vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) being treated.
- Take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) 1 hour prior to your appointment to help with any discomfort
- If you are taking prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should check with the prescribing doctor to see if you are able to stop these medicines for 7-10 days before your appointment and at least 2 days after the procedure has been done.
- If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform the doctor that you have made your appointment with, one week prior to your appointment; this will allow us adequate time to prescribe a medication to prevent an outbreak.
- Eat a small meal or snack prior to your appointment
- Avoid dental procedures (including cleaning) 2 weeks pre filler and 2 weeks post filler
- Bruising and swelling will be worse for the first 24-48 hours after you receive your dermal filler injections. Refrain from exercising for the remainder of the day following your injection(s). You may want to refrain from going to any special events during this time.
- Always inform your provider of all medications, including supplements you may be taking as well as your medical history
What should I do after a Sculptra injection?
- Cold compresses may be used after the treatment to reduce swelling and decrease soreness. You may take Tylenol (if not contraindicated) every 4-6 hours after the treatment to help with any discomfort you may have.
- Make-up may be applied a few hours after the treatment
- For the first 24 hours following treatment, limit exposure to UV. Extensive sun or heat exposure may cause a temporary increase in redness, bruising or swelling at the injection sites. If there is persistent swelling or redness after the injections, you should limit exposure to sunlight until these symptoms subside (for at least 5-7 days). If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a sun block with an SPF of 30 or greater, combined with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours to prevent moving the filler or increasing blood flow to the face
- After a Sculptra injection it is very important to follow the 5/5/5 rule which is vigorously massaging the area(s) injected 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days, this will help to distribute the product evenly and avoid the occurrence of granulomas (bumps under the skin.)
