Is there any downtime with SkinPen treatments?
There is minimal downtime with SkinPen treatments. Redness and mild swelling in the treated area can persist for 24-48 hours after the procedure.
Can I apply makeup after a microneedling treatment?
We recommend waiting for 24-48 hours after your SkinPen treatment before applying makeup. This will give your skin time to heal and reduce the risk of infection. Applying makeup too soon after a microneedling treatment can lead to irritation and inflammation.
What should I avoid after a SkinPen Treatment?
- Avoid benzoyl peroxide, retinols, and vitamin C for five days after a SkinPen treatment. Do not use any other skincare products than those recommended by your skincare provider for the first 24 hours after treatment
- Avoid activities that induce excessive sweating for 72 hours after SKinPen. Also avoid saunas, swimming pools, steam rooms, and hot tubs for five days after treatment.
- Avoid exercise for three (3) days following the procedure (including procedure day). Bruising is rare however, do not plan an important event within 2 weeks of treatment.
- Avoid unprotected sun exposure for 2 weeks after treatment. Use at least SPF 30 with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and a hat/shade to protect treated areas.
What should I do to prepare for my SkinPen treatment?
In general, limit your exposure to harsh chemicals and UV rays, abrasive or exfoliating skincare products, and medication that can thin your blood*
AVOID:
- Topical retinoids
- Chemical peels
- Topical exfoliants
- Anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil (Ibuprofen), Aleve (Naproxen sodium)
- Blood thinning agents
- Sunburn
*Do not stop taking any prescription medication without consulting with your primary care provider.
Who should not have SkinPen treatments?
SkinPen should not be used on clients with active skin cancer in the treatment area, open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s), bleeding disorders, pregnant or nursing, or currently taking or within last six months drugs with isotretinoin (such as Accutane).
